From Pioneer Project to Permanent Ecosystem
A History of Regeneration. Finca Santa Rita S.A. looks back on a 20-year history. Founded in 2001, we began with a clear mission in the hilly "Sierra Llorona" region near Colón. What was once degraded, clear-cut cattle pasture is now being systematically returned to its natural state.
The First of its Kind. In 2014, in partnership with Futuro Forestal, we became the first investor to turn the theoretical "Generation Forest" concept into reality. Unlike typical reforestation projects that plant monocultures for quick harvest, we planted a complex, mixed-species forest designed to last forever.
Independent & Committed. We own 708 hectares of land outright, ensuring the forest's permanence. To date, Benjamin Kullmann has invested over USD 4 million into planting approximately 140,000 trees—funded entirely without external debt.
Our Vision
Most tropical reforestation results in plantations. We are building a forest.
Our investment proves that climate protection and economic yield are not opposites. By mimicking the natural rainforest, we create a habitat for endangered species while providing fair, safe employment for the local population.
How a "Generation Forest" Works
1. Mimicking Nature
We do not plant monocultures. Based on detailed soil analysis, we reforest using a diverse mix of native high-value timber species—including Gold Cedar, Rosewood, and Mahogany. This creates a resilient, multi-layered ecosystem that mirrors the structure of a natural primary rainforest.
2. The Cycle of Eternity
This is not a plantation that is clear-cut after 20 years. Instead, we utilize a "Dauerwald" (Continuous Cover Forestry) approach. We selectively harvest individual mature trees to generate returns (approx. 4% p.a.). The gaps created allow light to reach the forest floor, stimulating natural regeneration and new planting. The forest itself remains intact—forever.
3. Ecological Functions
Because the forest cover is never removed, the ecosystem services are permanent:
- Carbon Sink: Continuous storage of CO₂ in biomass and soil (approx 10,000 tonnes/year).
- Water Filter: Acting as a sponge to recharge groundwater in the Panama Canal watershed.
- Soil Regeneration: Creating 6 million kg of new, fertile soil through leaf litter and protection from erosion.
Creating a Green Corridor
Our impact extends far beyond the borders of our property. Finca Santa Rita serves as a vital biological bridge connecting two major national parks: Chagres and Soberanía.
Biodiversity Returns
The ultimate seal of approval comes from nature itself. Camera traps have confirmed that rare predators like Jaguars and Pumas have returned to our land. Their presence proves that we have successfully restored a functioning food web and habitat.
Social Responsibility
We fight rural exodus by providing something rare in the region: safe, long-term careers. Our workers receive fair wages, social security, and support for their children's education. We don't just employ people; we support families.
Experience the Rainforest
Immerse yourself in the Generation Forest. Finca Santa Rita offers exclusive opportunities to witness the regeneration of the rainforest firsthand.
Located in the lush Sierra Llorona, just a short distance from Colón and Panama City, our site offers a unique blend of ecological education and natural serenity.
- Day Tours: Guided walks through our reforested trails, explaining the native species and our sustainable management practices.
- Eco-Lodging: Stay overnight in the heart of the forest. Wake up to the sound of howler monkeys and enjoy the cool, fresh air of the canopy.
- Birdwatching: A paradise for ornithologists, with diverse species returning to the restored habitat.

Structure & Certification
Kullmann Foundation
To ensure the forest remains protected in perpetuity, Finca Santa Rita S.A. is a 100% subsidiary of the charitable Kullmann Foundation (Hamburg, Germany).
This structure ensures that future profits not needed for forest maintenance flow directly into other charitable activities.
Futuro Forestal
Our implementation partner, Futuro Forestal, is a pioneer in sustainable tropical forestry and Panama's first B-Corp certified company.
